STEAM

OBJECTIVE:

Objectives to achieve in STEAM education will include developing a solid knowledge base among students and enhancing their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.  Strengthen the student’s ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills.  Build their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

1.

Science: Studying the world around us

Technology: Using tools to learn and work

Engineering: Designing and building things

Arts: Making things attractive and engaging

Math: Measuring things and result

2.

Students will use project-based learning that crosses each of the five disciplines and fosters an inclusive learning environment in which all students are able to engage and contribute.

3.

A general understanding of how the Moon, Earth and Sun rotate in a continuous pattern to create night and day.  What three things are needed to create shadows and how and why their lengths changes throughout the day.

4.

Constructing projects that incorporate Math, Science, Technology and Art skills.  Projects include building objects with Lego’s, cutting and pasting projects that fly, jump and perform other activities.  When finished building, the students will measure, compare, gather data and observe how their projects work.:

5.

Beginning coding skills on I-pads by entering commands to have characters in games perform specific actions.  These foundational skills will be critical to the success of the 21st century workers.

WHAT CHILDREN WILL LEARN BY THE END OF THE YEAR:

An understanding that things aren’t create using just one skill.  That all five of the disciplines will be used to design and construct projects.  Those projects could be made with paper, cardboard, plastic, or coding skills.
